About Art Commissions and Public Art
Do you have a special project that requires a site-specific work of art? If you sense an affinity with my paintings and sculpture – let’s talk. Maybe we can work together on creating a memorable project.
Anthony Rubino has a longstanding interest in public sculpture and murals. He has sited public works in Germany, New Zealand and at the Mill Pond House in Smithtown, Long Island. His current series of watercolors, inspired by music and a sense of wonder, would make a captivating mural for a modern building or heath care facility. He is also interested in an art commission for a specific space in a house or loft.
As a sculptor, Anthony likes to explore the various potentials that each medium presents. He has recently developed a technique for making bas relief sculptures in plaster. This can be used for an indoor space. For outdoor sculpture, cement or glazed ceramic.
Relief sculptures add a more visceral, physical dimension to a mural project. For residential projects, the relief should be subtle and project 2 or 3 inches from the wall. If you are intending something grand for a public space, perhaps 4 inches from the wall would be appropriate. The thing is, a designer can use the physicality of these relief sculptures to help create a powerful visual anchor for the space that you are designing.
The colors can range from the gray scale, or sandy colored limestone, to the colorful palette that Anthony uses in his paintings. With their structured compositions and varied forms, these mural sized reliefs will endow the project you are planning with an uplifting sense of beauty and harmony.
